As you may know, your child is participating in La Vida Kids Club Storytime during school assemblies. La Vida Kids Club is a FREE, bi-lingual health education program that explains how the body works, in a way children can understand, using exciting, multi-cultural, adventure stories. Our goal is to give children the tools they need to make their own positive nutrition, fitness and lifestyle choices. La Vida Kids Club emphasizes fitness instead of weight, nutrition instead of looks, and physical activity as an important part of everyday family life. In fact, La Vida Kids Club believes that good health is not only necessary for success in life, but needs to be a family project, in order to be achieved.
We encourage you to talk with your child about the La Vida Kids Club stories, share the fun of the activity booklets, and plan ways to apply the lessons learned in your family’s daily lives. In order to support our families in this important effort, the La Vida Foundation has created a monthly radio outreach as a convenient way to communicate with our families. So listen in for creative recipe ideas, practical cooking tips, healthy snack tips and the latest scientific news on health and nutrition.
We invite you to participate in La Vida Foundation radio presentation on the “Courtyard Show” at 1:00 PM, this Saturday, December 30, 2006 on 90.7 FM [KPFK]. We will discuss food bugs such as e-coli, salmonela, etc. We will answer questions such as, “Is there a food-borne epidemic looming and what can we do to protect ourselves? Who’s touching and packaging and transporting your food? How much should you trust them? Who’s regulating what they do? How can you protect yourself and your family? Is anything safe anymore?” WE had discussed the “raw movement” last show, and would like to offer a recipe that works beautifully, either cooked or raw.
